FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas placed fifth (and last) 737 MAX 8, LV-GVE, back into service on 20Dec21

Aerolineas Argentinas 737 MAX 8, LV-GVE (c/n 64208/6717), lands at Buenos Aires Aeroparque (AEP) on 11Jan19.  (Phil Perry Photo)

Aerolineas Argentinas grounded all five 737 MAX 8's in its fleet when the type of aircraft was grounded worldwide in March 2019.  With the recertification of the type in November 2020, Aerolineas started to prepare its MAX's for a return to service on a gradual basis as air traffic resumed in Argentina.

The first 737 MAX 8 that Aerolineas put back into regularly-scheduled service was LV-HKU (c/n 44293/6753) on 23Mar21, followed by LV-GVD (c/n 64207/6661), LV-HKW (c/n 44296/6926) and LV-HKV (c/n 44294/6807) on 20Jul21, 05Aug21, and 01Oct21, respectively.

Aerolineas holds orders for seven more of the 737 MAX series for a total of twelve airframes expected to be delivered by the latter part of the decade.

At first, the reactivated Aerolineas 737 MAX 8's were flown exclusively on domestic services in Argentina but have recently been used on regional South American routes to Brazil and Chile, as well, with eventual deployment on "longer" and "thinner" routes with less passenger traffic, such as Cordoba (COR) to Punta Cana (PUJ) also expected, taking advantage of the type's exceptionally long range.
