ROUTE UPDATE: LATAM Brazil added Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) - Cordoba (COR) - Mount Pleasant (MPN) (Malvinas / Falklands) on 20Nov19

LATAM Brazil inaugurated Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) - Cordoba (COR) - Mt. Pleasant (MPN) service on 20Nov19 linking Brazil's largest city and Argentina's second-largest community with the Malvinas / Falklands Islands, subject of the territorial dispute between Argentina and the UK that led to the South Atlantic War of 1982.

The service was scheduled to operate GRU - MPN nonstop 3x/monthly and GRU - COR - MPN 1x/monthly with all flights operated by 767-300's but was presumably suspended in March 2020 when all scheduled flights to/from and within Argentina were suspended due to COVID-19.

UPDATED 15Mar21:

Per aviacionline.com, three of the Mt. Pleasant (MPN) flights stopped in Cordoba (COR) southbound but only one northbound (due to some flight cancellations) between 20Nov19 and March 2020 when the route was suspended due to COVID-19.

The new route complements the flights operated by LATAM Chile and predecessor LAN Chile since 1999 using A319's and A320's between Punta Arenas (PUQ) Chile and Mt. Pleasant (MPN) nonstop 3x/monthly and 1x/monthly with a stop in Rio Gallegos (RGL) in Argentina.

Both the new and existing flights serve to connect the islands with the South American mainland and the world beyond, giving islanders more access to supplies and important services, such as medical treatment.  767-300's were chosen for the route on the basis of their cargo capacity, which by itself was expected to make the route profitable.

ROUTE UPDATES: Air Europa, Ethiopian

Madrid (MAD) - Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - eff 01Mar18 - 24Mar18 - Equipment alternating between 787-9 and 787-8

Back in October, it was reported that MAD-EZE would be the first route that Air Europa would introduce its new 787-9's on with the type being flown on an alternating basis every other day with 787-8's between 01Mar18 and 24Mar18, presumably because Air Europa would be using its one and only 787-9 on the route during that time period.

Madrid (MAD) - Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - eff 25Mar18 (?) - 787-9 definitively replaced 787-8

Air Europa is currently operating the 787-9 for all of its flights between MAD-EZE, 7x/weekly.

Cordoba (COR) - Asuncion (ASU) - Madrid (MAD) - Frequency increases & no change to 787-8

Air Europa is currently operating on the COR-ASU-MAD route 4x/weekly, with increases eff 29May18 to 5x/weekly and effective 26Jun18 to 6x/weekly.

The equipment change from the A330-200 to 787-8 which was previously announced for 03Mar18 did not take place.

Addis Ababa (ADD) - Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) extends to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - eff 08Mar18 - 5x/weekly

Ethiopian's service from Addis Ababa (ADD) to Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) that started in 2013 was extended to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) on 08Mar18 on a 5x/weekly basis using 787-8's.  In celebration of the first flight coinciding with International Women's Day, it was operated with an all-female cabin and flight deck crew.

Interestingly, even before the first flight to Buenos Aires took place, the airline announced that the service would go to 1x/daily effective 25Mar18 with an upgauging from 787-8 aircraft equipment to larger 777-200LR's (an increase of 270 to 321 seats) on 01Jun18, signalling strong advance bookings.

ROUTE UPDATES: LATAM Brasil & LATAM Chile - Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) - Bariloche (BRC), Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Bogota (BOG), Rosario (ROS) - Santiago (SCL)

* Rosario (ROS) - Santiago (SCL) - eff 01Jul17

Operated by LATAM Chile A320's 4x/weekly.

Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) - Bariloche (BRC) - eff 01Jul17 - 30Jul17

Operated by LATAM Brasil A320's 2x/weekly on Saturdays and Sundays for the Bariloche ski season.  LATAM Brasil had only flown this route on a charter basis in the past; this is the first year that it is operating it on a scheduled basis.

Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) - Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Bogota (BOG) - eff July 2017

Two additional weekly frequencies will be added to this route making it a daily service operated by LATAM Brasil 767-300ER's.

According to Aviacion News, the reason for the EZE-BOG segment being operated by LATAM Brasil is that the air service agreement between Argentina and Brazil allows for "Fifth Freedom" rights, which enables carriers from each country to pick up passengers in the other country and transport them to a third country.  LATAM Brasil does this picking up passengers in Argentina and taking them to Colombia.

It would normally have been easier for LATAM Argentina to operate between EZE and BOG instead of LATAM Brasil but the Argentina - Colombia bilateral air service agreement only allows for four flights per week by each nation's carriers and Aerolineas Argentinas already operates the Argentine quota.

Two of the LATAM carriers flying out of Buenos Aires Aeroparque (AEP), LATAM Brasil and LATAM Chile, have recently replaced the A320 with the larger A321 on several of their flights out of the Argentine airport.

LATAM Brasil is operating the A321 on two of of its three daily flights from Aeroparque to Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) at least into April (apparently not seasonal) and LATAM Chile is flying the A321 on at least one of its three daily flights to Santiago (SCL).
