FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas A330-243 LV-KHT arrives in Argentina, fleet at nine A330-200s

Aerolineas Argentinas' latest acquisition, A330-243LV-KHT (c/n 1191), landed at Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) at 6:55am on the morning of 21May23 on its delivery flight from the Mojave (MZJ), Arizona, USA aircraft storage facility.

Sister ship LV-KHU (c/n 1223), also an A330-243, is scheduled for delivery in the near future.

Both aircraft were originally delivered to South African Airways in 2011 before being returned to lessor Air Castle in 2020.  With these two new additions, Aerolineas Argentinas' A330 fleet will once again reach the peak of ten A330's that it had in 2017.  This will allow the airline to increase service from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Madrid (MAD) (12x/weekly) and Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) (5x/weekly) in July of this year.  The A330's will reportedly also replace Aerolineas' 737 MAX 8's on service from EZE to Punta Cana (PUJ) and Havana (HAV) plus add frequency to Cancun (CUN) (4x/weekly) and Miami (MIA) (10x/weekly).

Interestingly, LV-KHT and LV-KHU are both powered by Rolls Royce Trent 77DB-60 engines, which reportedly allow for higher takeoff weights and greater range, compared to the eight A330-202/203 that they are joining, which have General Electric CF6-80E1A3/4 powerplants with lower maximum takeoff weights.  Aerolineas' original four A330-223's were powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4168A engines making for a total of three different manufacturers equipping the carrier's A330 fleet over the years, which is unusual because the lack of uniformity usually leads to higher maintenance costs.

FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas A330-200 - Brief History 2013-2023 & Latest News

Aerolineas Argentinas has operated several types of aircraft on its long haul / intercontinental routes, including in the jet age - the de Havilland Comet 4, Boeing 707 / 747 (200, 400 and SP) and Airbus A310 / A340, followed by the introduction of the Airbus A330 in 2013.

The airline has operated 12 A330's so far with details below:

Four Used A330-223's delivered in 2013 and 2014

Aerolineas Argentinas' first four A330's were all -223 models.

Two of these aircraft, LV-FNI (c/n 290) and LV-FNJ (c/n 300), were first delivered to SABENA in 1999 with both going on to fly for VG Airlines and Malaysia Airlines before joining Aerolineas in September 2013 and June 2014, respectively.

The other two A330-223's, LV-FNK (c/n 358) and LV-FNL (c/n 364), were originally delivered to Air Afrique in 2000 and proceeded to serve an identical sequence of operators; Calliope, Eurofly, Atlas Jet, Saudi Arabian, and Atlas Jet again before going on to Aerolineas in November and December 2013, respectively.

The A330-223's were used on the airline's long haul routes in the Americas, such as Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Miami (MIA), New York Kennedy (JFK), Punta Cana (PUJ) and Cancun (CUN), but they did not have enough range to fly from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to the European points on Aerolineas' scheduled route network, such as Madrid (MAD) and Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), with a full passenger and cargo payload.  So, the airline's A340-300 fleet, which still consisted of seven airframes in 2015, continued to cover the carrier's European routes.

Four New A330-202 Deliveries directly from the Airbus Factory in 2015 and 2016

Aerolineas Argentinas placed an order with Airbus for four new factory-fresh A330-202's on 12Feb14 powered by General Electric CF6-80E1A4 engines to be delivered in 2015 and 2016.  The second generation of A330's for Aerolineas had the range to fly from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), the longest nonstop sector on the carrier's route network, enabling Aerolineas to start planning the retirement of its last A340's.

LV-FVH (c/n 1605) was delivered to Aerolineas on 28Feb15.  This is the aircraft that was decorated in the special 2022 World Cup scheme pictured at the top of this posting, which also flew the Argentine national men's football / soccer team home from Doha, Qatar as the recently victorious World Champions.

LV-FVI (c/n 1623) was delivered to Aerolineas on 30Apr15.

LV-GHQ (c/n 1737) was delivered to Aerolineas on 05Aug16.

LV-GIF (c/n 1748) was delivered to Aerolineas on 02Nov16.

With the above aircraft deliveries, Aerolineas' A330 fleet stood at a total of eight aircraft.

Two Used A330-203 Deliveries in 2016 and 2017

LV-GKO (c/n 587), which was originally delivered to EVA Air of Taiwan in 2004, joined the Aerolineas fleet on 13Sep16 on lease from AirCastle.

LV-GKP (c/n 634), which was also originally delivered to EVA Air in 2004, joined the Aerolineas fleet on 10Feb17 on lease from AirCastle.

These new additions brought Aerolineas' A330 fleet to a total of ten aircraft in 2017.

This set the stage for Aerolineas to retire its final two A340-300's, LV-FPV (c/n 193) and LV-FPU (c/n 170) in December 2019 and February 2020, respectively.

Two More Used A330-202 Deliveries in 2022

LV-KAN (c/n 877), which was first delivered to TAP Air Portugal in 2007, joined the Aerolineas fleet on 13Apr22.

LV-KAO (c/n 899), which was first delivered to TAP Air Portugal in 2008, joined the Aerolineas fleet on 18Jul22.

During the same time period, Aerolineas stored its four original A330-223's LV-FNI (c/n 290), LV-FNJ (c/n 300), LV-FNK (c/n 358) and LV-FNL (c/n 364) in 2021 / 2022 and progressively returned them to their lessors with the last airframe, LV-FNK, departing the fleet in October 2022, leaving the carrier with a total fleet of eight A330-202/203 at the end of 2022.

In addition to its international long-haul destinations, Aerolineas has used its A330-200 fleet on domestic flights to heavily traveled touristic destinations, such as Bariloche (BRC)El Calafate (FTE)Puerto Iguazu (IGR), and Ushuaia (USH) during their respective high seasons.

Typical A330 utilization by Aerolineas is approx. 4,000 flight hours per aircraft, per year with an average of 9.5 hours / cycle.

Aerolineas has always operated its Buenos Aires A330 services out of Ezeiza (EZE) airport although with the extension and widening of the runway at Buenos Aires Aeroparque (AEP) during its pandemic closure in 2020, the smaller city airport can now accommodate A330's flying to Miami (MIA), which it appears will become a reality in the coming months.  To the best of your editor's knowledge, no A330 has ever taken off or landed at Aeroparque.

STOP THE PRESSES !

Aerolineas Argentinas' latest acquisition, A330-243, LV-KHT (c/n 1191) is enroute at the time of this blog posting, from the Marana (MZJ) Arizona storage facility in the United States to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) with an expected arrival on the morning of 21May23.

FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas retired A330-200, LV-FNI, its first A330

Aerolineas Argentinas A330-200, LV-FNI (c/n 290) on approach to an unnamed airfield.  (Phil Perry Collection)

Aerolineas Argentinas recently retired the first A330 that it ever took delivery of, A330-200, LV-FNI (c/n 290).

The aircraft was first delivered to SABENA of Belgium in 1999, continuing to fly for several carriers, including VG Airlines and Delsey, both also of Belgium, and, more recently, Malaysia Airlines, until it joined Aerolineas in September 2013.  LV-FNI soldiered on with the Argentine national flag carrier until it was withdrawn from use and stored locally in Argentina on 16Jun21.  The aircraft was finally returned to the lessor (appears to be AerCap) when it departed Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) on 23Sep21 to Miami (MIA) and Roswell (ROW), arriving at the New Mexico facility on 25Sep21.

Aerolineas Argentinas built up a fleet of ten A330-200's between 2013 and 2017 in replacement of its long-range A340 and 747 fleets..  In addition to LV-FNI being returned, LV-FNJ (c/n 300) and LV-GKO (c/n 587) have been parked since March 2020 with LV-FNK (c/n 358) and LV-FNL (c/n 364) possibly to be returned to their lessor when their current leases expire in April 2022.  However, two A330-200's will be added to the Aerolineas fleet when LV-KAN (c/n 877) and LV-KAO (c/n 899), both formerly of TAP Air Portugal, are delivered to Argentina before year's end.

If LV-FNK and LV-GKO both return to service with Aerolineas, the carrier will have a total of nine long-range Airbus twins in service.

After a nine-month suspension, Delta Air Lines restarted Atlanta (ATL) - Buenos  Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Atlanta (ATL) service on 19Dec20 using 767-400's on a 3x/weekly basis until February when it plans to increase flights to the same 1x/daily that it operated before the pandemic while also upgrading its equipment to the A330-300 due to its reportedly greater cargo capability, which is very much in demand these days.

Delta is the only US airline blocking the center seats on its aircraft (as a COVID-19 security measure), at least until 30Mar21.

Aerolineas Argentinas A330-200 departs Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO) to bring back Sputnik V Vaccine

Aerolineas Argentinas A330-200, LV-GIF (c/n 1748), took off from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) at 19:56 this evening operating flight AR1060 bound for Moscow's Sheremetyevo (SVO) Airport to pick up 300,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, which will be the first COVID-19 vaccine to be administered in Argentina.

The aircraft is due back at Ezeiza at 10:12am on 24Dec20 after a 40-hour journey comprised of the outbound flight, which will take seventeen hours and the return eighteen hours, nonstop in both directions, with 4-6 hours on the ground in between while the cargo is loaded.  The vaccines will be packed in DHL's "Thermobox" packaging that will maintain the -18C / 0F temperature required to maintain the vaccine's viability.  The flight personnel consisting of three flight deck crews of ten pilots and two mechanics plus cargo loaders and flight attendants totaling twenty people, will travel the entire round-trip with the aircraft without any layover in Moscow.

ROUTE UPDATE: Air Europa increasing Cordoba (COR) - Asuncion (ASU) - Madrid (MAD) flights to 5 and then 7 weekly

Cordoba (COR) - Asuncion (ASU) - Madrid (MAD) - eff 04Jul18 -increase to 5x/weekly - eff June 2019 to 1x/daily

Air Europa started flying from Madrid (MAD) to Asuncion (ASU) on 16Dec15 on a 2x/weekly basis using A330-200's, adding on Cordoba (COR) and increasing frequency to 4x/weekly in December 2016 with a planned further increase to 5x/weekly on 04Jul18 and daily flights in June 2019.

Presumably, the idea of including both Asuncion (ASU) and Cordoba (COR) on the route was originally intended to assure profitable load factors on the transatlantic operation but 25% of the passengers traveling on this flight fly between Asuncion (ASU) and Cordoba (COR), which would probably be about 50+ passengers, a seemingly high number for a secondary route and probably a pleasant surprise to the airline.

ROUTE UPDATES: Air Europa, Ethiopian

Madrid (MAD) - Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - eff 01Mar18 - 24Mar18 - Equipment alternating between 787-9 and 787-8

Back in October, it was reported that MAD-EZE would be the first route that Air Europa would introduce its new 787-9's on with the type being flown on an alternating basis every other day with 787-8's between 01Mar18 and 24Mar18, presumably because Air Europa would be using its one and only 787-9 on the route during that time period.

Madrid (MAD) - Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - eff 25Mar18 (?) - 787-9 definitively replaced 787-8

Air Europa is currently operating the 787-9 for all of its flights between MAD-EZE, 7x/weekly.

Cordoba (COR) - Asuncion (ASU) - Madrid (MAD) - Frequency increases & no change to 787-8

Air Europa is currently operating on the COR-ASU-MAD route 4x/weekly, with increases eff 29May18 to 5x/weekly and effective 26Jun18 to 6x/weekly.

The equipment change from the A330-200 to 787-8 which was previously announced for 03Mar18 did not take place.

Addis Ababa (ADD) - Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) extends to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - eff 08Mar18 - 5x/weekly

Ethiopian's service from Addis Ababa (ADD) to Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) that started in 2013 was extended to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) on 08Mar18 on a 5x/weekly basis using 787-8's.  In celebration of the first flight coinciding with International Women's Day, it was operated with an all-female cabin and flight deck crew.

Interestingly, even before the first flight to Buenos Aires took place, the airline announced that the service would go to 1x/daily effective 25Mar18 with an upgauging from 787-8 aircraft equipment to larger 777-200LR's (an increase of 270 to 321 seats) on 01Jun18, signalling strong advance bookings.

Aerolineas Argentinas to make decision on replacement of A330 long-range fleet by end of 2018

Aerolineas Argentinas A330-200, LV-FVH (c/n 1605), Aerolineas' first factory-delivered and owned aircraft taxiing at a European airport.  (Phil Perry Collection)

Aerolineas Argentinas will reportedly make a decision on the replacement of its intercontinental jet fleet by the end of 2018.

Aerolineas Argentinas - Intercontinental Flights - First Decades

Aerolineas Argentinas has flown several types of long-range jet aircraft from  Argentina to Europe and North America since it first introduced the de Havilland Comet 4 into service in 1959.  Since then the Boeing 707, 747-200, 747SP, 747-400 and Airbus A310 have all flown long-range services for Aerolineas with even some smaller regional types, such as the 727-200 being pressed into service occasionally on multi-stop runs from Argentina to Miami, for example.

After the 747-400 was retired from active Aerolineas service on 01Feb12, the airline remained with an exclusive Airbus fleet for its intercontinental scheduled flights.  Aerolineas has operated a total of 13 different A340 series aircraft, including three A340-200's and ten A340-300's, two of which remain in service plus 10 A330-200's, all of which are currently flying for the carrier.

Airbus A340-300

The two remaining A340-300's, LV-FPU (c/n 170) and LV-FPV (c/n 193), the latter painted in Skyteam colors, will soldier on until 2019 or even 2020, presumably flying mostly the Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Madrid (MAD) route as they do now.

Airbus A330-200

Aerolineas Argentinas started taking delivery of the backbone of its current intercontinental fleet, the A330-200, in 2013 with three examples joining the fleet that year, one in 2014, two in 2015, three in 2016 and the final A330-200 being acquired in early 2017 for a total of 10 of the type.

Two of these aircraft, LV-FNI (c/n 290) and LV-FNJ (c/n 300), were delivered to SABENA with both going on to also fly for VG Airlines and Malaysia Airlines before joining Aerolineas.

Another two A330-200's, LV-FNK (c/n 358) and LV-FNL (c/n 364), were delivered to Air Afrique and proceeded to serve an identical sequence of operators; Calliope, Eurofly, Atlas Jet, Saudi Arabian, and Atlas Jet again before going on to Aerolineas.

Yet another pair of A330-200's had identical service histories before joining Aerolineas, LV-GKO (c/n 587) and LV-GKP (c/n 634), which were delivered to EVA Airways prior to going to Argentina.

Finally, Aerolineas Argentinas bought four factory-new A330-200's directly from Airbus in February 2013, with the first example, LV-FVH (c/n 1605), being delivered on 28Feb15 followed by LV-FVI (c/n 1623) on 30Apr15, LV-GHQ (c/n 1737) on 05Aug16 and LV-GIF (c/n 1748) on 02Nov16.

Aerolineas deploys its A330-200 fleet on its intercontinental network radiating out from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Miami (MIA), New York Kennedy (JFK), Cancun (CUN), Punta Cana (PUJ), Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), and Madrid (MAD) 2x/weekly with the other 5 days being operated by A340-300's.  The carrier  flew to Barcelona (BCN) until recently too.

Recent European Route Changes

Aerolineas dropped Barcelona (BCN) because it was unprofitable, especially in the face of competition from Level, an LCC belonging to the IAG Group, but it plans to restart service to the Catalan city when it has more efficient lower-cost aircraft in its fleet that will make the airline more competitive on the route.

The Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) route was also a money-loser but it apparently became a much more attractive product when Aerolineas added frequencies to make it a daily service because the route is now profitable.

A330-200 Replacement

Aerolineas will reportedly start retiring its A330-200's after it has completed replacing Austral's E190 fleet, probably in 2021 or soon thereafter.

The leading candidate aircraft include the 777, 787, and A350 with no further indication thus far of which models of each type might be under consideration.

FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas' long-range fleet plans A340, A330, 737 MAX 8

Aerolineas Argentinas A340-313X, LV-FPV (c/n 193), in Skyteam colors will be one of the last two Aerolineas A340's to be retired from the fleet. (Phil Perry Collection)

Aerolineas Argentinas officially has six A340-300's remaining in its fleet but two are reportedly parked in the desert in the United States with two more to be retired in the coming months and two more with recently renovated interiors expected to stay in service with the Argentine national airline for another year.

Referring to airfleets.net, A340-313X, LV-CSD (c/n 123) and A340-313X, LV-CSF (c/n 128) both ex-Singapore and Cathay Pacific examples, are apparently the aircraft that will be retired in December 2017 and March 2018.

The two A340-300's on lease from Iberia, A340-313X, LV-FPU (c/n 170) and A340-313X, LV-FPV (c/n 193), the latter painted in Skyteam colors, have had their interiors remodeled and will stay in service until December 2018, reportedly flying mostly from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Cancun (CUN), Barcelona (BCN) and Madrid (MAD).

The carrier's A330's will cover Aerolineas' other intercontinental routes to Miami (MIA), New York-Kennedy (JFK) and Rome-Fiumicino (FCO).  Once the A340's are gone, the A330's will operate all of Aerolineas' intercontinental routes plus many routes in the Americas that are beyond the range of the carrier's 737-800 fleet, at least until Aerolineas starts taking delivery of the longer-range 737 MAX 8, which will be deployed on routes such as Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Bogota (BOG) and Punta Cana (PUJ).

ROUTE UPDATES: Aerolineas Argentinas - Rio Cuarto (RCU), Barcelona (BCN), Rome Fiumicino (FCO) & "Corredor Atlantico"

* Buenos Aires Aeroparque (AEP) - Rio Cuarto (RCU) - eff 03Apr17

This service, which is currently operated by Austral using E190's on a Cordoba (COR) - Rio Cuarto (RCU) - Buenos Aires Aeroparque (AEP) basis with 1x/daily round-trip will see the Cordoba (COR) legs dropped and will instead be operated 2x/daily from AEP to RCU round-trip, still by Austral E190's.

"Corredor Atlantico" - Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Mar del Plata (MDQ) - Bahia Blanca (BHI) - Trelew (REL) - Comodoro Rivadavia (CRD) - Ushuaia (USH) - eff 03Apr17

Operated by Austral E190's, presumably 1x/daily.  This flight will depart EZE at mid-morning to allow connections from intercontinental flights to points along the east coast of Argentina all the way south to Ushuaia (USH).

This concept is similar to the other three "corredor" multi-leg routes that Aerolineas operates connecting "interior" cities of the country; the "Sur", "Norte", and "Petrolero" with the latter connecting points related to the Argentine oil industry.

* Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Rome Fiumicino (FCO) - increased frequencies & aircraft change

Effective 02May17, 5th weekly flight
Effective 04Jun17, 6th weekly flight
Effective 06Jul17, 7th weekly flight

Aircraft type is changing from A340 to A330 on 01May17.

Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Barcelona (BCN) - increased frequencies & aircraft change

Effective sometime during the northern summer season, increase from 4x/weekly to 5x/weekly, and change aircraft type from A340 to A330 in May.

FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas took delivery of its 10th A330, LV-GKP (c/n 634), on 10Feb17

Aerolineas Argentinas took delivery of its 10th A330, LV-GKP (c/n 634), on 10Feb17.

According to the blog Linea ALA, four of Aerolineas' A330's are capable of flying ETOPS (extended range twin operations) from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to Rome Fiumicino (FCO), the airline's longest route.

They are the four A330-202 and 203 models, LV-FVH, LV-FVI, LV-GHQ, LV-GIF, with the four A330-223's, LV-FNI, LV-FNJ, LV-FNK and LV-FNL not authorized for transatlantic flight.  Presumably, two of the most recently delivered A330's, LV-GKO and LV-GKP, being -203 models, will be able to fly transatlantic.

FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas took delivery of two A330's in late 2016

Aerolineas Argentinas continues to take delivery of Airbus A330's replacing the older gas-guzzling A340's in its fleet.

A330-203 LV-GKO (c/n 587) was delivered on 13Sep16 on lease from Aircastle.  The aircraft was originally delivered to EVA Airways on 22Apr04 where it flew its entire career prior to joining Aerolineas.

A330-203 LV-GIF (c/n 1748) was delivered factory-new directly from Airbus in Toulouse on 02Nov16.  This is the last delivery of an order for four brand-new A330's made during the previous Aerolineas administration.

FLEET UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas received its seventh A330-200 on 05Aug16 + Current Fleet Status

Aerolineas Argentinas received its seventh A330-200, LV-GHQ (c/n 1737), which is also its third new A330-202 direct from the Airbus factory, on 05Aug16.  The other four examples are used A330-223's that were originally delivered to SABENA and Air Afrique, two each in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

Aerolineas' A330-200's are progressively replacing the carrier's seven-strong A340-300 fleet. One of the latter aircraft, LV-CEK (c/n 094), flew its last revenue flight with Aerolineas on 14Aug16 and will be returned to the lessor once it has been refurbished.  Of the other six A340's, LV-CSE (c/n 126), is expected to leave the fleet in mid-September with LV-CSX (c/n 373) scheduled to follow in March 2017.

Replacement A330's include the newly-delivered LV-GHQ, plus LV-GKO (c/n 587) and LV-GIF (c/n 1748) due to join Aerolineas in late August and October 2016, respectively.

Eventually, Aerolineas' entire A340 fleet might be replaced by A330's but a lot of that depends on whether the A330's will be able to operate some of Aerolineas' longest routes, such as Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) - Rome (FCO) nonstop, which is currently covered by the A340's.

ROUTE UPDATES: Aerolineas Argentinas' Cordoba (COR) - Miami (MIA) service discontinued for 5th time since 1979

Aerolineas Argentinas A330-223, LV-FNI (c/n 290), is the aircraft from the airline's fleet that operated the fewest number of the total 141 flights between Cordoba (COR) and Miami (MIA), only 4 legs.  (Phil Perry Collection)

Aerolineas Argentinas' Cordoba (COR) - Miami (MIA) flights, which started on 04Jul15, were recently discontinued with the last flight departing Cordoba (COR) on 29May16.  This was the fifth time that service between the two cities was attempted but abandoned since 1979, once again leaving Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) as the only Argentine airport with nonstop flights to the United States.

The service operated 2x/weekly on Saturdays and Sundays with the aircraft operating the flights departing Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) early on Saturday morning on a ferry flight to Cordoba (COR) where they departed in the late morning to Miami (MIA) arriving there in the early evening.  Once in Florida, they turned around to fly back to Cordoba (COR) overnight arriving back in Argentina on Sunday morning where it started the same circuit again, finally ending with a ferry flight from Cordoba (COR) to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) on Monday morning.

A total of 141 sectors was flown between the two cities during the 11 months of operations with A340-300's operating 109 of the flights and A330-200's the remaining 32 legs (for full details on the number of sectors flown by each of the aircraft in Aerolineas' long-haul fleet, see the link below "Sources" at the bottom of this posting).

Passenger loads ranged from a low of 88 travelers on the last Cordoba (COR) - Miami (MIA) leg, which was to be expected given that it was an "orphan" leg with no corresponding return to Cordoba (COR).  The largest number of passengers was on the very first flight from Cordoba to Miami (MIA) on 04Jul15 with 292 people on board.

In all, there were 15 flights with more than 250 passengers aboard and the average load of all the flights was over 200 travelers.  However, Aviacion News claimed that the load factor was below 70% and there was very little high yield traffic in Business Class.

Only a few of the Ezeiza (EZE) - Cordoba (COR) - Ezeiza (EZE) legs were open for public sale, which meant that nearly all such flights were a "dead" operating cost burden to the overall profitability of the route.

In the opinion of the editor of this blog, the repeated failures of the Cordoba (COR) - Miami (MIA) service have been mostly due to its having been operated as a point-to-point route, with no feed to other flights on either end, a situation which would be much different with American Airlines flying the route feeding into its massive Miami (MIA) hub with connections to approx. 100 destinations in the United States.

ROUTE UPDATE: Aerolineas Argentinas added Cordoba (COR) - Miami (MIA) service effective 04Jul15

Aerolineas Argentinas reintroduced Cordoba (COR) - Miami (MIA) service on 04Jul15 to be operated on Saturdays and Sundays with A340-300's, although A330's have been schedule on the route on Sundays for two months between July and September.  The airline last flew between the two cities 4x/weekly with 747-200's in January 1999.

Aerolineas Argentinas / Austral are also operating flights between Mendoza (MDZ) and Cordoba (COR) to connect with the Miami (MIA) flights in both directions using Embraer 190's and 737-800's.

With this new service Aerolineas will have 16 weekly flights between Argentina and Miami (MIA), 14 from Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) and 2 from Cordoba (COR).
